How to Match a Casino Offer for a Free Virgin Voyages Cruise

If you’ve ever gotten a free cruise offer from a casino or cruise line and wondered if you could turn that into something more, Virgin Voyages is one of the more interesting plays available right now.

Virgin Voyages has been matching cruise offers from other lines or casinos for some time, but in order to secure that free sailing, you’ll need to make sure to properly navigate their submission process.

In my case, I used a Princess Cruises offer and ended up with a free Sea Terrace (balcony) cabin on Virgin Voyages. I was initially denied, however, because I missed a key requirement in the fine print.

Virgin Voyages Status Matches vs. Casino Offer Matches

It’s important to clearly distinguish between the two offers Virgin provides:

  • A Sailing Club Status Match into their Sailing Club loyalty program (based on your airline, hotel, or cruise status)
  • A Casino Offer Match where they match an actual free cruise offer (like “complimentary 7 night cruise”) from another line.
The Sailing Club match is held periodically, depending on demand. It’s currently only available for a limited time, but it is often reactivated every few months. A successful match gets you Blue Extra perks for your sailing, including things like free laundry, a specialty coffee each day and an invite to an onboard cocktail event.

The casino offer match can lead to a free cruise offer, usually in a Sea View or Sea Terrace cabin, if your original offer is strong enough.

Unfortunately, you can’t take advantage of both offers at the same time. Anyone sailing on a casino comp won’t receive Sailing Club status benefits.

If you’re already a casino regular on other cruise lines, the casino match is a way to leverage that play and experience a totally different cruise style without paying full fare.

Make Sure Your Casino Offer Qualifies

I found that Virgin’s requirements for casino offer matches are a bit more strict than some other cruise lines. According to the email exchange I had with one of their casino reps, for an offer to be considered it needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Contain your name.
  • Be clear and legible for proper evaluation.
  • Show the cabin category eligible with your offer.
  • Display eligible book by/sail by dates of the offer.
  • Show that the offer is a full comp (offers that say “up to ____ category” or require a deposit will not qualify).
  • No status/membership cards, only actual offers accepted.
  • Be current and active.
  • Not a booking confirmation from another line or a land-based casino.
When I sent in my Princess offer, this is where I made an error. I submitted an offer that had passed the “book by” window by a few weeks, so Virgin considered it an expired offer. They simply denied my match without providing a reason. I had to reach back out and ask why I was denied before they explained the issue.

Submitting Your Offer to Virgin Voyages

Virgin processes the casino match offer through a dedicated form on their website. Here’s the general flow:

Gather your proof

Take a picture of your original cruise casino offer certificate or email. Make sure the offer clearly shows important information like your name, cabin category, and that it’s a fully comped offer.

Fill out the form on Virgin’s website

You’ll be asked for your information and sailing date preferences. Not every itinerary is eligible for a casino booking, but the options will update continuously throughout the year. If you don’t find anything that works for you initially, keep checking.

In my experience, Virgin will simply assign you a sailing based on your choices, but it should be possible to request a different booking if the assigned one doesn’t work for you.

Wait for confirmation

If your request is approved, you’ll get an email to complete payment for the casino cruise booking within 24 hours. You will be able to email the casino department, but it’s a generic email. You won’t be contacted directly by a representative.

Virgin Voyages Casino Match Final Thoughts

Virgin’s casino status match is a nice way to try out their cruises and casino program. While it requires a bit more flexibility than some of the other match offers, it’s definitely worth taking advantage of if you haven’t sailed with Virgin before.

Keep in mind you’ll still have to pay port taxes and fees, but gratuities and wifi are included, along with drinks in the casino. This makes it a great value, especially if you secure a sea terrace cabin.
